Men are considered as flag bearers of businesses. A woman cannot take her father's business legacy. She need to move to other's home after marriage. ' why can't women choose being unmarried?, why can't a women marry and live separately? ' are few questions of women.
The women who support female infanticide also say 'why should we let them live and suffer the same way as we are suffering?'. It is just like saying there is so much house pollution in city; the best technique to escape is going deaf. You will not cut your ears to escape from loud noise, then how it is okay to Kill girl babies. Science helps these women . They need not go to temples for prayers, astrologers or saints to help them have a son. Labs helps them in identifying the sex of the baby. If the sex is not right,then it is got rid of. Anti-woman traditions are preserved and updated over the years. As long as the status of society, in any society, does not improve,there is no way these blood shed murders can be prevented.
Even educated people blame women for giving birth to a daughter. My friend was hurt with words for giving birth to girl. She was bruised with words like she does not have good karma,she is a liar,she is unlucky. Even a high school kid knows chromosomes determines sex of a baby. These people blame and criminalize women on something they don't have control of.
Dowry is not just rural problem. Civil servants and doctors are top notch dowry recipients. My friend's cousin was married off to an IAS officer for a dowry of one crore. My maid negotiates with each and every groom's parents. They ruthlessly ask for 25 sovereign of gold and two wheeler. My maid have educated her daughter and she is working as a nurse. Dowry is rampant among urban,educated and so called civilized families. Dowry is prevalant among Christian and Muslims too. Pentecostal Christians are demanding gold,though they don't adorn themselves with gold. My Christian friend does not wear even earrings, so, her parents were asked to give car and cash. I totally don't understand the concept. To forbid people from desires, the system of not wearing gold existed. There is no end to people's greed. In spite of the concept of equal treatment mentioned in quran, still dowry became common in Islam. Each and every gold jewellery has a separate collection for Muslim brides. A heavy weighed big jewellery with elaborate designs are shown as Muslim style jewellery. Only laws are amended against patriarchal practices. I have seen an ad on female infanticide when I was 6 years old. I have never seen an ad campaign on dowry, gender equality in recent days. We need more campaigns and awareness programs to eradicate dowry.
